A Great Resource in LocalPolitics.in

Yesterday I was fortunate enough to be part of an effort with two friends’ companies, Hashrocket and Thought & Theory, to build out an open source application as part of the Apps for America program by the Sunlight Foundation. (credit for the work to them)

We chose to build http://localpolitics.in/ which is a site that you can put in your ZIP code and it will pull information about your local representatives from API’s provided by the government, regulatory agencies, and the New York times. We plan to continue to expand the information the application provides and in the near future should provide things like your representatives’ voting history on bills etc. We also plan to add methods for subscribing to a feed of information for your area via email and RSS. We hope this will prove to be a great tool to help keep people connected with their government representatives and the issues they care about. If there is any specific information you think would be a useful addition please let me know and please spread the word.
